Background: Active Duty in the United States Army. Served as an Infantryman, Special Forces Weapons Sergeant, and Recruiter. Earned U.S. Army, German and Polish Airborne wings, graduated from Jumpmaster and SERE schools among others. Basking in the twilight of my career, meaning that I passed the 20-year mark in August, 2008, I'm not ready to be put out to pasture. At least not most days. What is the best part of being in the Army? For me, it is the lifestyle... the institutional ethic that everything could be done better, that everyone has room for improvement and that seeking the best is a constant of our lives. Whether it is leaders motivating their subordinates to strive for higher standards, or followers expectations that leaders demonstrate those higher standards, we all know that just showing up for work is not enough... for ourselves, for our comrades, or for the nation that we serve.
