One of the nice surprises...
...upon my return from the Big Island came when I stepped on the scale!
I didn't have much time to do PT while there. My job required that I be "at work" at 0530, brief the commander at 0630 and then my shift ended at 1400. However, because we were a bit short-handed in my shop, I would stay there until around 2200 or so working on other projects. That was while I was in the cantonment area. Once I left there to be the Range Safety Officer (RSO) and range NCOIC, I was up at about 0600 and in the fartsack (sleeping bag) at about 2400 or so.
So, when I stepped on the scale just before my first shower at home yesterday, I was a bit surprised to learn that my wife was right, I did lose weight. She met me at the airport and saw me first from behind. She told the lady she was walking with that it wasn't me because I was too thin. Sh-yeah!
So, 10 pounds lighter, I feel pretty good! I still have a few more pounds to shed, but that was a pleasant surprise.
Ya know, being in the real Army and away from recruiting is great!
