One size does not fit all

I am all for local control. I think that cities, counties and states should determine most of how life runs in their communities. I believe that we should have a federal government and that it has definite responsibilities to all Americans. However, controlling the weather is not one of those responsibilities. At least, I haven't found it in the Constitution, yet.

So, when I read the headline below, my eyes rolled and I thought, "great, more liberal grandstanding":
Rebuffing Bush, 132 Mayors Embrace Kyoto Rules

But when I read the story, my thoughts changed. I decided that what is going on here is a great thing. Local leaders are deciding what is best for their communities, like they should! Instead of the federal government ramming a treaty and all the restrictions that go with it down the throats of all Americans, some local leaders have decided whether or not they want to "embrace Kyoto Rules" or not.

Good for them. Very Republican of them.

btw: California needs to remain strict on its emission laws due to the geography and climate. Why should Kansas have to follow the same rules when its geography and climate do not trap smog and poison its citizens? Just my humble opinion.
